The potential in Africa
Worldwide, the demand for food and other agricultural commodities continues to increase and concern for future food security is on the rise.
Africa provides fertile ground for food production with vast undeveloped natural resources. Over 60 percent of the world's undeveloped arable land is situated on the continent. The United Nations estimates that the world will have to feed 9.6 billion people by 2050. This means food production will have to increase by 70%.
Urbanization and changing eating habits place further pressure on food production. In order to produce premium, nutritional foods it is becoming crucial to develop Africa's agricultural and human resources.
Growth in the agricultural sector has a positive impact on economic development, poverty reduction and job creation. Currently, it employs 65 percent of Africa’s labor force and accounts for 32% of Africa's economic activity. But the potential doesn't come without its challenges.
Campitor's founding team, Willem Meyer, DF Fyfer and Ralph Baumgarten, spent their childhood learning the lessons of life on farms in South Africa. It taught them to create and construct, to respect nature and others.
The team exchanged their gumboots for business suits and gained international experience in corporate landscapes – including private equity, venture capital, commodity trading, logistics and farming. With experience in various fields they have since returned to their homeland in Africa to build profitable food and agribusinesses and help these companies share their produce with the world. The founders of Campitor are experienced and well positioned to build a portfolio of food platforms to drive profit for investors and create long-term value for society.
Investing in Africa's agriculture has the potential to make a significant societal impact and offer attractive financial returns to investors. Campitor is strategically positioned to unlock Africa's potential with a global network of food and agribusiness expertise. They do business to create value and change lives.
