Media Update: Must-See Movies for 2024
As Senior Advisor, Media & Entertainment, Impact Foundation’s Ben Howard leads our relationships between media opportunities and our Donor/Investors. With vast experience producing and promoting films and other entertainment, Ben strongly believes in the power of media to help transform hearts and minds for the Gospel. Here’s an update on faith-connected media from Ben.
UPDATED—AUGUST 2024: Watch for these two excellent, faith-connected movies this month. The Forge (releasing 8/23) by filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick (creators of War Room, Fireproof, and others), starring Priscilla Shirer, and the new Ronald Reagan movie, Reagan (releasing 8/30) with Dennis Quaid and Jon Voight. Check out the trailers and IMDB information on the links above and watch for these films in theaters.
ORIGINAL POST—JULY 2024: This summer, a significant movie, The Sound of Hope: Possum Trot, was released in partnership with Angel Studios and CarePortal. Opening July 4th, The Sound of Hope garnered $7MM in its first week. It shares a true story and strong message of God’s redemption through adoption and foster care, beginning with a community and church in East Texas.
The trailer is compelling, and viewers' reviews have helped spread the word about this film and its story of hope in our culture. It’s a movie you won’t want to miss—check your local theatres or Angelstudios.com for more details. You might also enjoy this thought-provoking featurette.
Angel Studios also released the film Sight, The Story of Vision in theaters in May 2024. It’s the true story of a Chinese immigrant, Dr. Ming Wang, who becomes a world-renowned eye surgeon and his quest to restore the sight of a young, blind orphan. You can view the trailer here and watch it as a member of the Angel Guild, and other streaming services and digital platforms soon.
Another important project in the works is House of David, the first production from The Wonder Project. Partnering with Amazon MGM Studios, The Wonder Project will launch the series exclusively on Prime Video. Currently shooting in Greece, the series will tell the story of David at a production level rarely seen in a faith-connected series. Having recently visited the set in Greece, I’m anxious to view the final series. Stay tuned for a release date. Learn more about House of David here.
Last fall, Impact Foundation was pleased to work with The Wonder Project's leadership team as they shared their vision for launching the company. Sovereign’s Capital was the lead investor, and several Impact Foundation Donor/Investors worked with us to invest. The Wonder Project launch was well covered by the press, including articles from Deadline and Variety.
